With more than 46 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Kirby is a nationally recognized hotel broker specializing in focused-service and midmarket hotel investment sales throughout the Sun Belt and Mid-Atlantic regions. As an active broker and leader at Mumford Company, he oversees the marketing and administration of the firm’s five regional offices while advising hotel owners, investors, developers, and institutional clients on complex hospitality real estate transactions.
Throughout his career, Kirby has successfully facilitated the sale of more than 300 hotel properties across 23 states, representing over $700 million in aggregate transaction volume. He has led numerous multi-property disposition programs for institutional ownership groups and maintains real estate brokerage licenses in eight states. Kirby focuses on upper tier midmarket brands including: Hilton, Marriott, IHG and Choice Hotels.
Before joining Mumford Company, Kirby served as Development Director for Choice Hotels International, where he managed franchise development throughout the Midwest and Southeast regions. During his tenure, he completed more than 100 hotel franchise transactions across multiple lodging brands and earned several top performance honors, including the Victor G. Trapani Sales Excellence Award.
He also held the role of Development Director for the Southeast region at Forte Hotels International, overseeing franchise sales, joint venture developments, and hotel acquisition opportunities. Kirby began his hospitality career with Days Inn in 1983, serving in hotel operations, quality assurance, franchise services, renovation planning, and project management for corporate-owned properties.
A respected voice in the lodging industry, Kirby is a frequent conference panelist, hospitality writer, and contributor to hotel investment and lodging publications. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Economics from Appalachian State University.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kirby is deeply involved in community leadership and disability advocacy. He previously served as Chairperson of the Forsyth County Zoning Board of Appeals and currently serves as President of The Cumming-Forsyth County Miracle League. He also supports workforce placement initiatives for adults with disabilities within the hospitality industry and coaches for Special Olympics and Miracle League programs throughout North Atlanta.
